For over 30 years Oak Grove has been at the forefront of transformative education, addressing the whole process of what it means to live and to learn.   Our understanding of how learning occurs continues to expand and grow as we explore and share with other educators what works well for student learning.

The faculty at Oak Grove School spend a full week before school begins, two full days over winter break, and a full week before summer break meeting intensively to share, exchange, reflect on, and discuss their teaching practice.  A range of respected educators have worked with our teachers on such topics as Non-Violent Communication and Project-Based Learning.  Our teachers also benefit from teacher exchange programs and partnerships with our sister schools in England and India.  In turn, many educators visit the school each year to see our work in action.

Through an affiliation with the Coalition of Essential Schools and a professional development partnership with Wildwood Secondary School in Los Angeles, Oak Grove School faculty developed and implemented The Arts of Living and Learning, a framework that integrates the philosophical intent of the school as expressed by our founder J. Krishnamurti, with common principles of educational practice as expressed by the Coalition of Essential Schools.

We hope that these partnerships will both nurture our growth as a school and also provide a forum for sharing our approach to education with the world.   Indeed, as we look around the world, it seems that the need for an education such as ours, one that is “whole, mindful, and intelligent” has never been greater than now.
