Math & Science

The junior high Math and Science program seeks to prepare students to see the connections between math and science, understand key concepts, and apply these concepts to real world situations. Students are also encouraged to recognize and use subject specific vocabulary in order to effectively communicate their ideas. Study skills such as note taking, test taking strategies and organization are emphasized. Coursework in math includes Pre-Algebra and Algebra I, preparing students to take Geometry in 9th grade and Algebra II in 10th. Science curriculum is offered through the Full Option Science System (FOSS). FOSS is a research-based science curriculum for grades K–8 developed by the University of California. FOSS provides all students with science experiences that are appropriate to their stages of cognitive development. This serves as a foundation for more advanced ideas that prepare them for life in an increasingly complex scientific and technological world. Junior high science includes environmental science, physics, biology and chemistry through FOSS.
