The math program focuses on conceptual understanding and problem-solving, requiring students to experiment with examples, look for and articulate patterns, and make, test, and prove conjectures. Students discuss problems, use writing to clarify thinking, express complex mathematical ideas, and present findings to the rest of the class. Students are encouraged to work in collaborative groups as well as apply mathematical concepts in real world contexts, particularly as it relates to science. It is expected that students have taken Algebra I before entering the high school program; however, those students without Algebra I may take it independently in the summer before their sophomore year.
