While English is offered as a separate class, the English and Social Studies curriculum is considered interdisciplinary under the banner of Humanities. Teachers work closely in order to demonstrate the connection between literature and history and to promote reading comprehension in both subject areas. The goal of the English program is to:
- Enhance students’ ability to think clearly and critically and communicate effectively
- Increase comprehension and command of language
- Expose students to a diversity of both cultural and universal values
- Instill an appreciative regard for reading, thinking and expression
- Enable students to write competently and confidently
