Oak Grove Summer Camps Open to the Public

To register your child for a camp, please download and complete the form link above and mail it along with payment to Oak Grove School - 220 West Lomita Avenue, Ojai CA 93023 / Or bring the form and payment to our Main House - open hours are 8:00AM - 4:00PM each weekday. Peace Camps Bring your children to our beautiful wooded campus, where summer is filled with laughter, choices and creativity. They will play indoors and out, exploring ideas, sand and water, and making friends in our safe, nurturing environment. Social skills are developed through peer interaction, while peaceful methods of conflict resolution are modeled and supported. (Optional Aftercare program is available from 12:00 - 2:30PM on request – $20/day additional charge.) |

Art Camp - Ceramics, Painting, and Sculpture in the Studio Students will explore their creativity in Oak Grove's rich Art Building, in media including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, and collage. Lead by experienced teacher Christy Sylvester, this camp presents a wonderful opportunity for young students to let their art shine! Of course students will also have fun playing games, getting wet, and relaxing with other campers. |

Creativity Camp - Art and Nature In addition to the art studio, students will also explore the beautiful area of the Oak Grove woodland near the campus and beyond. From there, what they find in nature will become both the inspiration and the medium for the creations and activities. |

Sespe Wilderness Backpacking Trip Ages 12 – 16 $350 - Overnight, June 24 – 28 Instructors: Oak Grove teachers Ron Schindel, Bo Ainsworth, Camille Carlson Come explore the far reaches of the Sespe River. Nationally designated as "Wild and Scenic," the Sespe is one of only two such rivers in Southern California. Witness the astonishing reappearance of the California Condor and Big Horn Sheep. Prehistoric cave paintings illustrate a world unchanged by modern humans. Visit Southern California as it was a thousand years ago. |

The Young Chef - Junior High and High School Students For junior high and high school students - Come learn culinary basics with Oak Grove Chefs Michael Shevchuk and Kate Komaiko. Gain hands-on experience with local ingredients and see what being a chef is all about. The course covers preparation of a variety of dishes from Mediterranean to Mexican to Asian. Each class will end with a special lunch, and the delicious week culminates in a lunch served for your special guest. |

Science Camp with Jim Bailey - Chemistry! Join Ojai’s renowned science guy Jim Bailey as he explores the foundations (and sheer wonder) of chemistry, focusing on reactions, polymers, atoms, light, and heat. Students will study light waves by making their own kaleidoscopes and polarizing filters. |

Yosemite Backpacking Trip Ages 12 – 16 $550 - Overnight, July 29 – August 2 Instructors: Oak Grove teachers Ron Schindel, Bo Ainsworth, Camille Carlson Come and explore California's iconic National Park. Glacial valleys, pristine lakes, giant sequoias and raging waterfalls are just some of the natural wonders that will surround us. We will base camp at Crane Flat and spend the week exploring the park. Daily adventures include the 20 Lakes Basin, Tuolumne Meadows, and the Panorama Trail. |

Science Camp - The Physics of Flight! The physics and fun of flight! Students will create (and get to keep) their own high-pressure, air-powered launching device, experimenting with different projectiles - all with different properties. Also on the menu, the class will make boomerangs and work with Estes solid fuel rockets. |

Surf’s Up! If your child is excited about surfing this is the class for her/him. We will introduce and practice basic technique and build stamina and strength needed for paddling. We will learn about water safety and surf etiquette, as well as surf culture. Above all, we’ll have fun getting wet! Class time will be divided between ‘dry-surfing’ activities on campus and field trips to pool and beach. |

Rock Academy Ages 10 – 15 $220 - 10:00AM – 1:00PM August 19 – 23 Instructor: Oak Grove teacher Rory Stalwick Experience the joy and challenge of being in a band as we explore the art of Rock and Roll in an instructional/jam session. Students must have basic proficiency on an instrument (vocalists are welcome) and be willing to work and play with other musicians. Discover the creative and technical foundations of Rock and have fun! |
